LIBRA (light blue) CHARM:  Sees the world as a place to balance and be in harmony with. The personality is surrounded by a sensitivity to beauty.

GEMINI (bright blue) VERSATILITY:  You express yourself in a thoroughly engaging way. Responsive, skillful and clever, you have a natural relationship with the sphere of ideas and the realm of air.  Alert, amusing and exuberant, you tend to be surrounded by friends and admirers. There is a need for constant motion which can lead to impatience, and a flighty nature. You will bend the truth to obtain the right result. You live inside the moment and a place of immediate reward. Quick and full of curiosity about everything, you are a master conversationalist but tend to avoid the depths. A dissatisfied, brooding element is usually hidden. Dramatic flair and talent are common along with the gift of persuasion. There is a strong need for variety.

VIRGO (dark green) HELPFUL: Emotionally reserved and understated, Dark Green’s withdrawal and detachment is compensated with a giving nature. The self is anchored in servitude and integrity.Fastidious and diligent, there is a steady resourceful, dutiful element at the center of the personality.

the facebook-free baby

Now that the racecar is almost here, I've been questioning whether or not I'm going to post his picture on my blog.  The following article from The Wall Street Journal entitled, "The Facebook-Free Baby" makes a valid point.  While I'm not on Facebook, I've posted many things about my work and myself online. Our baby will be an enormous part of my life and my first inclination is that I'd be thrilled to share pictures and stories about him.  However, I'd making this choice for me, not him.  Considering he won't be able to voice his opinion for quite sometime, I'm left to decide.  Should I expose him online, or not?

What are your thoughts about this issue?

calvin and hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes
by Bill Watterson

Synopsis from Goodreads:  In November 1985, the magic of Calvin and Hobbes first appeared on the funny pages, introducing the world to a wondrous pair of friends. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this distinguished partnership between a six-year-old boy and his (sometimes) stuffed tiger, Watterson has prepared a special book, which shares his thoughts on cartooning and is illustrated throughout with black-and-white and color cartoons.

What I think:  Without question Calvin and Hobbes is the greatest comic ever written.  I think what makes this collection so good is that it goes beyond just being funny.  The friendship between a little boy and his stuffed tiger is touching and genuine.  This is one of my very favorite Calvin and Hobbes images.  It represents why I love the book so much.

ps. Guess what inspired me to name my cat Calvin?

boat and tote bags

I've always used canvas totes to organize my art supplies.  Now, with the racecar on the way, I'd like to order a few more bags to hold baby toys and supplies.  I especially like these Boat and Tote Bags from L.L. Bean.  The website allows you to choose your own size, color, and personal monogram.  I'll have to wait until we decide on the racecar's name to put in my order!

poem by mary oliver

"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
call to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."
