nyc

Geoff and I just returned from a weekend wedding in New York City.  One of my favorite parts of the trip was taking a bath in my hotel room.  The picture above is the view I had from the tub!  I also had a wonderful time celebrating, dancing, and dining during all of the wedding festivities.

rosie flo

Rosie Flo's coloring book was sitting on my desk this morning.  I thought it would be a playful way to start my day.  All of the pictures in the book have dresses to color in.  You can also add heads, legs and arms.

These dresses made me think of two girls at a party.

Voila!

And I love this group of characters at the beach.

water bottle

My friend gave me a water bottle that looks just like this.  I was really excited about my present.

The other day a ten year old asked me about my bottle.  I was proud to show it off.  I told her that my bottle has its own filter system.  I am able to fill up my bottle with water from anywhere.  It is safe to drink because the bottle filters the water as you squeeze it into your mouth.  The ten year old went on to ask, "Can you fill it up with water from a toilet bowl?"  I wasn't sure how to respond.  I couldn't tell if she was kidding with me.  I ended up saying something like, "I guess it would depend on whether or not the toilet has been flushed."  That really got her laughing.

a light in the attic

A Light in the Attic
Shel Silverstein

Synopsis from Goodreads:  Here in the attic of Shel Silverstein you will find Backward Bill, Sour Face Ann, the Meehoo with an Exactlywatt, and the Polar Bear in the Frigidaire. You will talk with Broiled Face, find out what happens when Somebody steals your knees, get caught by the Quick-Digesting Gink, hear a Mountain snore, and see Them Put a Brassiere on the Camel.
From the creator of the beloved poetry collections Where the Sidewalk Ends and Falling Up, here is another wondrous book of poems and drawings.

What I think: I loved reading this collection of poetry when I was a kid.  Not only did I have the book, I also had a tape of Shel Silverstein reciting his work.  I think he's a brilliant writer and performer.  My very favorite poem from the collection is called "Clarence".  This poem is about a little boy who sells his parents at a garage sale and buys a new set of parents from a TV commercial.  Shel Silverstein's voice is just right when he reads this poem aloud.  I also remember enjoying a poem called "Ladies First" about a bossy girl name Pamela Purse who gets eaten by a cannibal known as "Fry-'Em-Up Dan".
