tub of glass

i'm the only one

who sees you

the only one

who cares

i listen to 

your heartbeat

as you look at me

and stare

i know you want

to leave 

that small salt water tub

but what am i to do?

you're not a 

little cub

way too big to carry

or tuck you in my purse

and if i got you home

my family would think 

they're cursed

i'm sorry to say

my sweet, sweet friend

i have to let 

you be

to swim along

the smooth, clear glass

so far away

What I think: Roald Dahl is one of my very favorite writers and this collection of fairy tales had me laughing out loud.  My particular favorite is Dahl's version of Cinderella.  Instead of marrying the prince, she ends up with "a simple jam-maker by trade/ who sold good home-made marmalade/their house was filled with smiles and laughter/ and they were happy ever after."
